It’s rarely just about the money; family businesses are steeped in tradition, family history and lore, generational expectations, and emotions.  I have seen many instances of a family business lacking an exit strategy or succession plan, and it’s tough to watch.

Some business owners don’t have an official plan in place and opt to do a soft exit, but this turns into a severely delayed retirement and resentment from the person set to inherit the business.
